When I want a pumpkin patch, Raleigh’s Page Farms is where I go for my pumpkins and mums. It sits on Mt. Herman Road in northwest Raleigh, near Umstead State Park, so it’s an easy drive from Brier Creek.
You can pick your own pumpkin right off the vine, then make an afternoon of it with the corn maze, a hayride, the hay stack slide, the cow train, and the farm animals. Page Farms is open Wednesday through Sunday during the fall season.

NC State Fair food is what most people seem to love, and it’s worth the trip. We’ve been to the State Fair, and it’s very fun, very extensive, and very crowded. It’s the largest annual event in North Carolina, running for 11 days every October at the State Fairgrounds on Blue Ridge Road. In 2026, it runs October 15 to 25.
Beyond the food, there are rides, games, animals, competitions, live music, and nightly fireworks. My advice: expect crowds, wear comfortable shoes, and come hungry.

One of my favorite fall nights happens right in my own neighborhood. Brier Creek Country Club holds a Trunk or Treat for residents. About 30 residents turn their cars into trick-or-treat stations, each decorated with a theme, and hand out candy to kids in costume. Several hundred kids usually come through.
We sponsored a trunk one year, and our theme was The Wizard of Oz: “There’s no place like home.” As a realtor, I couldn’t resist. It was super fun, and it’s the kind of night that makes a neighborhood feel like home.
The Trunk or Treat is for residents only, so it isn’t something to plan a visit around. If you’re thinking about a move here, consider it a small preview of fall once you live here.

I think fall is a great time to move here. You’re not dealing with the summer heat and humidity, and while there aren’t as many people shopping for homes, the ones who are shopping are serious.
